Sommelier Jane Lopes was a big fan of our wines back in the day as sommelier at Attica, so it’s wonderful to celebrate the release of her new book, How to Drink Australian, coauthored with Jonathan Ross. We're sure this seminal tome will soon become an authoritative dictionary on Australian wine. With some very kind words on Vinea Marson, see below - we encourage you to pick up a copy of the book at your nearest independent bookstore.
About Vinea Marson, Jane writes: ‘Mario Marson spend many years working as a winemaker, including 15 with John Middleton at Mount Mary (Yarra Valley), before settling on a place for his own vineyard. He chose nebbiolo, barbera and sangiovese for the Cambrian soils of Mt Camel, where they have thrived for over 20 years, alongside the more traditional shiraz and Viognier. The Vinea Marson Heritage wines line Mario to his upbringing. Growing Friulian varietals pinot bianco, malvasia d’istria, friulano and picolit. Mario has been joined in the winery by his daughter Madeleine as assistant winemaker.’
And on What We’re Drinking, Jane writes: ‘Vinea Marson makes a range of Italian-inspired wines that blend Australian and Mediterranean sensibilities. The Grazia is a favourite: a blend of pinot bianco, malvasia d’istria, friulano and picolit that combines stone fruit and smoky reduction on the nose with a fleshy yet fresh body. The perfect prosciutto wine.’
